Filters of Time and Derivation Ed. 01
Curated by Nikhil J M Purohit & Faandee
A curatorial initiative of Kamalnayan Bajaj Art Gallery

Art, at its core, is a contemplative act, a way of approaching what resists easy comprehension. The tools we rely on pictorial images, icons, codes, and artistic functions shape how we learn, operate, interpret, and perform. These systems are, by nature, unidentified, unlabeled and they form the cognitive ground on which visual meaning is constructed.

This exhibition brings together a strong selection of diverse visual forms, media, and methods. The intent is to create an experiential and thought-engaging display that communicates the role of semiotic cognition within visual-making processes, shaped by materiality, cultural provenance, and temporal framing. Each contributor may employ distinct processes and pursue radically different outcomes; however, viewed together, these objects open up a field of semiotic diversity, revealing how meaning, form, and interpretation derive from differing creative lineages.

Each exhibit becomes a specimen for visual investigation. Through this multidisciplinary assembly featuring practices by Bhuvanesh Gowda, Hansodnya Tambe, Madhav Imartey, Neha Gawand Pullarwar, Nilesh Kinkale, Niteen Rangdal, Nitin Hadap, Nitin Arun Kulkarni, Ruchita Madhok, Sejal Shah Kshirsagar, and the Vayeda Brothers. The aim is to foster comparative observations, whether formal, functional, or contextual, across visuals intended for both tangible and intangible applications. The exhibition’s interpretive cues and interactive programming further support the viewer in navigating these varied semiotic terrains.
