The exhibition Continuum: Indus – Textures of Time offers a profound dialogue between antiquity and the present, where history is not merely recalled but re-envisioned through the language of contemporary art. Artist Kajal Galtonde continues her exploration of the Indus Valley Civilization, a theme central to her earlier Sindhu Series, and extends it into a new body of work that bridges time, memory, and imagination.
Her practice draws from the symbolic richness of one of the world’s earliest urban cultures-its scripts, motifs, and enduring materiality. Textures reminiscent of kiln-fired bricks, metallic impressions, and layered surfaces evoke the tactility of ancient craftsmanship while simultaneously unfolding into the modern world. By employing mixed media and a carefully considered colour palette, Kajal transforms fragments of history into abstracted stylized visual experiences that transcend chronological boundaries.
Rather than being confined to the raw and archaic, these works embody a transformative journey where ancient forms are reinterpreted, revitalized, and woven into a contemporary aesthetic language. In this process, history becomes less of a static record and more of a living spirit, resonating with timeless vitality.
This exhibition invites viewers to walk a mystic path that reimagines the Indus legacy, urging us to reflect on how cultural memory shapes our present and can be carried forward into the future. Through Kajal’s works, the past finds continuity not in imitation, but in re- creation, allowing us to witness the enduring essence of civilization in dialogue with the now.
