Shalan and Radhika, both self taught artists, are very passionate about the medium they work in. Simplicity, passion and beauty of form are what you take away when seeing their work.
Both have participated in numerous shows in the past and this is the first time they are showing together. The idea for the show came from the realization that both artists have a similar work ethic a similar approach to art and a great likeness of aesthetic sensibility.
Radhika captures the physicality of the form through color. She attempts to visualize plains and contours through color and texture to recreate an abstract cohesion of mass.
She is showcasing a series of horses in acrylic as a medium to express her understanding of the physical form. A horse lends itself as an apt medium due to its rugged yet graceful structure and symmetry in its creation. There is certain energy and vitality associated with the horse and she hopes to capture that in essence. She pays special attention to capturing a mood, a nuance to infuse life into the painting. The objective is merely to allude to something rather than stating it.
Shalan works with clay. Her solo show last year presented the immense possibilities one can explore through this medium. Large murals, wall pieces, sculptures, lamps, tableware and even furniture. Now, its like quieting down to just one aspect – THE FORM.
