Art has as much history as history itself. As the earth and the world have moved in the last thousand years, art has moved and travelled with mankind. There has been two distinct ways of keeping history alive. It has been only through art and literature. Else the evolution of the universe and the rich cultural heritage of the human species would have been in oblivion. Art in today’s world is becoming more and more important. The need is not visible but it exists. Someone rightly said, “Nations are built by Philosophers, Artists and Thinkers.” Science and technology helps a man to think technically and logically. To balance it, art tries to nurture the basic thinking process of an individual, by qualitatively formulating and enhancing the emotional and cultural traits of his personality. As the great dramatist, William Shakespeare once said, “The object of art is to give life a shape.”

Utpal is a Finance Professional (Cost Accountant) with an Engineering (BE Electronics) background. He has spent more than 20 years in organizations like Microsoft/ HSBC/Godrej and SAIL in various areas of IT Consulting, Financial Management and Project Management. He is Director at Crimson Consulting: An Academy and Consultancy of Microsoft-ERP/CRM.

Utpal tries to balance between his hectic professional world and his passion for different shades of colors. He finds solace in the vast expanse of his canvas, immersing himself in the vibrant hues, creating abstracts, forms and figures. Horses and female forms interest him. One can feel the power, energy and rhythm from his creations. Utpal is a true believer of Picasso who said, “I paint forms as I think them, not as I see them.” He also boasts of abstracts which allow him to play with his imaginative mind. This provides him his freedom area where he builds, breaks and recreates in abundances.

Utpal’s inspiration comes from his visit to the famous Louvre Museum, in Paris in the late 90s. He says that the most interesting part of his visit was when he discovered a tiny artist’s village called ‘ Barbizon’, around 200 miles away from Paris. “Every shop in this hamlet had an art gallery, which was quite a revelation!”, he says. Its vibrancy inspired him. Hailing from a steel city, Bhilai, Utpal did not have any exposure or access to the different art exhibitions held in big cities. But right from his childhood he had kept the flame of his passion alive and was basically self-motivated and self-taught.

“What the artist seeks to achieve with the greatest work and with the greatest diligence, in the sweat of his brow, is that everything he produces with the greatest effort should look as if it had been created quickly, almost effortlessly, indeed with the greatest of ease- whatever the truth of the matter…and the essential principle remains: to expend heavy effort and nevertheless create something weightless.” - Michelangelo, 1538.
