Songs from the Golden Sands ...........
Rashmi Rathods is one amongst those Indian artists who have accurately rendered the true expressive vistas and people of rural India. The faces of her subjects, most often Rajasthani people and landscapes are truly as expressive as one would find them in real life.
For Rashmi Rathod, art is the unique example of expressing a cultured way of life. Portrayal of elation and joy is the central theme of her works. The artist conjures up the essence of the dusty streets, of village women, of dancing girls and playful children, of camels and horses and bearded men from the desert. The canvases, robust with ochre, yellow and sandy browns with notes of red and orange transport the viewer to the land of the Golden sands.
Her works have innocence, beauty and simplicity imparting a unique quality to them. “Whether it is old men, village women, or Indian music, I just can’t ignore their beauty and elegance. Due to the fast pace of our modern lives, we tend to either completely overlook this aspect or take it or take for granted. It is this essential beauty in ordinary images that I have always tried to highlight through my work” says the artist.
A self taught artist, Rashmi has been creating art since past ten years. Through simple rendering, she breathes life into the modest characters on her canvas. The choice of subjects imparts a new kind of freshness and vitality through the usage of fresh and vibrant colors.
