Sangeeta Waddhwani Presents ‘Stories in Circles’: A Captivating Art Exhibition in Mumbai Mumbai, 7th June 2023 - Sangeeta Waddhwani, renowned journalist and former Executive Editor of HELLO! Magazine, is set to embark on a new artistic journey, unveiling her captivating artworks for the very first time. The exhibition, titled ‘Stories in Circles’ will take place at Kamalnayan Bajaj Art Gallery at Nariman Point, Mumbai on 12th June, 2023. Waddhwani's thought-provoking collection delves into the themes of sustainable lifestyles and the impact of mobile phones and AI technology on humanity.
One of the highlights of the exhibition is a remarkable artwork called ‘Eco Draupadi’. This striking piece portrays a stripped saree-clad figure, symbolizing the deteriorating state of nature. The artwork depicts the dire consequences of humanity's greed, represented by the forest fires engulfing her on both sides. Waddhwani draws parallels between the idea of humanity ‘gambling’ away their future while stripping the planet, with the gambling table of the epic Mahabharat. The anger in her eyes is also a warning: “Strip me, unravel your very existence on my being.”
Another notable artwork, ‘Out of Africa’ sheds light on the exploitation of wildlife for consumer-driven fashion trends. ‘Stories in Circles’ comprises various circular and oval-shaped artworks, invoking the cosmic significance of the Bindu in Indian mythology. The collection includes thought-provoking pieces such as ‘Web of Life’, ‘Lotus Consciousness’, ‘The Wave’, ‘Cosmic Rose’, and ‘The Himalayas’, each offering its own narrative on sustainable lifestyles. Additionally, Waddhwani explores the immersive nature of the metaverse through her series ‘The Mandroid and Selfina: The Roaring 20s’.
Through her art, Waddhwani challenges the audience to reflect on the consequences of our technology and consumer-driven society. “These visual contemplations rose within me during the height of the Pandemic; it was Nature knocking on my consciousness,” she shares.
Sangeeta Waddhwani is a highly acclaimed journalist who has made significant contributions to the media industry. Having grown up in Taipei, Taiwan, she discovered her love for painting during her high school years, where she immersed herself in the captivating world of Oriental Brush Painting.
Although she didn't pursue art full-time, Sangeeta's encounters with renowned artists and visits to their studios enriched her understanding of diverse artistic perspectives. Throughout her illustrious career as an editor for esteemed magazines like ELLE, L'OFFICIEL, and HELLO!, she dedicated her weekends to honing her artistic skills, experimenting with techniques, and exploring contemporary ideas.
