Landscape, in Peeyush Bavalia’s practice, is not a site to be described but a condition to be inhabited. In Celestial Terrains, the artist presents a body of work shaped by prolonged engagement with natural environments—mountains, seas, and moonlit skies—approached not as external spectacles but as spaces of inward attention.
These works emerge from lived encounters with terrain: moments of walking, pausing, observing, and returning. The mountains appear as silent presences—stable yet responsive—while the sea unfolds through rhythm and repetition. Moonlight becomes a connective force, mediating between sky and earth, revealing form gently rather than dramatically. Across the exhibition, light is less an optical phenomenon and more a quiet guide, shaping depth, distance, and emotional tone.

Bavalia’s use of water-based and free-flowing mediums such as acrylic and ink allows form to surface gradually through layering, tonal shifts, and restraint. Gesture remains minimal, often held in suspension, creating a sense of stillness rather than resolution. The works resist narrative closure; instead, they open into reflective spaces where time slows and perception deepens.

While rooted in specific geographies, these landscapes are not bound to place. They hover between the physical and the psychological, transforming terrain into an emotional register. Memory, movement, and silence shape the surfaces as much as topography. The act of trekking—of encountering vastness through the body—inflects the work with a sense of scale that is felt rather than measured.

In an era dominated by speed, noise, and visual excess, Celestial Terrains offers a quieter proposition. The exhibition invites viewers to linger, to attune themselves to subtle shifts of light and form, and to experience landscape as a meditative encounter. Here, nature does not overwhelm; it listens. And in that listening, a space opens for stillness, balance, and inward reflection.
